The noble mission of the Jivitadana Sangha Hospital since its establishment is to provide medical treatment to the sick irrespective of nationality, race, sex, religion, social status wealth or poverty. It is a non profit, non government humanitarian organization dependent on generous donations of the well wishers.
Jivitadana Sangha Hospital is a General Hospital attending to the medical needs of the sick monks and nuns and is staffed by eighteen generalist doctors.
On arrival at the hospital, the sick monks and nuns have to report to their respective Out-patients Department where they are issued with a Medical Registration Booklet and then examined by the doctors on duty. They are then given the required medicines (free of charge) for the duration required for complete recovery. If it is found that they require hospitalisation they are immediately admitted to the respective in-patient wards.
In addition to the abovementioned eighteen doctors who are on our payroll, about one hundred other doctors including about ninety specialists are contributing their services in an honorary capacity. Surgical specialists include eye,ear,nose and throat, urology and orthopaedics surgeons. Anaesthetists assist these surgeons wherever necessary. Likewise physicians and other medical specialists including dentists are taking care of patients within their fields of specialisation. Therefore in a way this hospital is gradually developing into a specialist hospital.
Monks and nuns attending this hospital as in - patient are provided with all the basic necessities such as bed, mattresses, blankets, pillows, mosquito netting, towels etc that they are used to in their respective monasteries and nunneries. They are also provided with their daily meals as directed by the doctors concerned and in accordance with the nature of their respective ailments.
While attending the hospital as in-patients the sick monks and nuns are provided free of charge with all the medication and medical services required for their complete recovery. For those undergoing eye surgery, I.O.L, for dental patients complete set of dentures, for ear patients hearing aids are also provided free of charge. For those sick monks and nuns, requiring special treatment at other hospitals, assistance up to k 50000/- is provided for each patient.
For those monks and nuns who have recovered completely from their current illness and who are returning to their monastery or nunnery situated anywhere within the country, transporation costs are borne by the hospital.
For those unfortunate monks and nuns who succumb to their latest illness the funeral expenses are also borne by the hospital.
Monks and nuns who have undergone treatment at this hospital are highly appreciative of the various services and consideration extended to them.
